Meeting Times:  3:00 – 4:30 in Mrs. Sok’s Classroom (D115)

Participants: Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader interested in mathematics

​

Coach:  Katie Sok (8th grade math teacher)

           Math team is an organization for those students who enjoy math and are proficient in their math skills.  Because of the longer practice time, parts of the meetings will be used for instruction while the rest of the time is organized for group work and practice.  In addition to the organized practice, each week participants are able to access the MathCounts website where they can find weekly problems.  These are available Mondays and the solutions will be posted on Fridays.  There are also many other math resources on this website.

          The students work towards two major competitions: MathCounts Regional and Flo Valley.  In addition to these two competitions, some will qualify for the state competition and some will be recommended for Junior Olympiad.  Information for each competition will be handed out at meetings as it gets closer to competition time.  It will also be uploaded to the links on the math team website (located on my website).   To prepare for these competitions, we will have two friendly District 7 competitions vs. Lincoln Middle School.  We will also participate in the SIGMA math contest and ICTM math contest during our regular meetings.

        Throughout the Math Team season, students will also have the opportunity to take part in the Math Video Challenge and achieve Silver/Gold Level Status in the National Math Club.
